Fuerteventura is split into different areas. The whole southern part of Fuerteventura is in the Pajara municipality. In the middle of the island, northwest of La Pared, is the town named Pajara. Some of the well-known places in the south of Fuerteventura, in the Pajara municipality, include the tourist spots Costa Calma and Jandia. There's also the quaint fishing village of Morro Jable, the small surfer village La Pared, the tourist area Esquinzo, the charming village La Lajita, and several small villages in the northwest like Cardon and Toto.

Two villages worth mentioning are Ajuy and Punta Jandia. Ajuy is in the northwest of Pajara. It's known for its large sea-carved caves, which pirates may have used. Punta Jandia is at the opposite end of Pajara, in the southwest of Fuerteventura. It feels remote, like the edge of the world. It's reachable only by a 16-kilometre gravel road and has two excellent fish restaurants by the sea.

The Costa Calma area is the windiest part of the island and perhaps the whole of the Canary Islands. This is most due to the ‘Venturi wind’ effect in this part of the island, whereby any breeze gets accelerated through the valley behind the resort and gets spat out, at speed, over the sea. The strong offshore wind creates butter flat water, a dream for windsports like wingfoiling, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. 

The West Coast is littered with surf spots. Road and mountain booking is popular here, and there are some excellent rental shops in Costa Calma. Paddleboarding if perfect here on the rare no-wind days. 

Southern Fuerteventura has plenty of volcanic reefs and drop-offs that are rich in marine life and great for scuba diving and snorkelling. With superb visibility (between 25-50 meters) and comfortable water temperature (18-25°C), Fuerteventura offers some great diving within easy reach of Northern Europe.
