Windsurfing Holidays in Rhodes South, Greece

In the very South of Rhodes is the small wind haven of Prasonisi, approximately a 1-and-a-half-hour drive from Rhodes airport. This resort is dedicated to windsurfing (and wing foiling, and kitesurfing) with reliable, strong winds and well-stocked centres with the latest equipment. There are two horseshoe-shaped bays connected with a sandbar; one side is super flat water for Windsurfing and Wing foil only, and on the other side, there are small waves predominantly for kitesurfing.

Directly on the Beach of Parsonsi, there is a small cluster of restaurants, shops and a few small hotels, the best of which is The Oasis Prasonisi. This is a great place to stay for dedicated windsurfers who want to spend as much time on the water as possible. If you want a more luxurious experience, or you are travelling with a non-windsurfing partner or family, we recommend the Atrium Prestige, which is just 20 20-minute drive away. Wingfoiling Holidays in Rhodes South, Greece

Prassonisi is one of the most reliable and exciting wingfoiling spots in the whole of Greece, and it has a very distinctive feel thanks to its open, wind-sculpted landscape. It is a place for riders who want long, fast runs, clean power, and a lively beach atmosphere, especially from June to September. Prassonisi is ideal for intermediate to advanced wingfoilers who want guaranteed wind, easy launching, and the chance to switch between flat water and small waves simply by walking across the sand. It is a fun, energetic spot with long riding lines and wind you can count on for hours every day in summer.

On the flat-water side of the double bay, the wind is usually side-shore from the left, building through the day and often reaching a solid 20 to 30 knots in peak season. The water stays relatively smooth close to the shore, which makes it excellent for practising gybes, tacks, transitions, and pumping techniques. Further out, the water becomes more textured, giving a fun challenge without ever feeling unpredictable.

On the wave side of the double bay, you get a completely different character. The wind direction is similar, but the water is open to the Aegean, so you get wind swell building throughout the day. These aren’t big, heavy waves, but they are more than enough for riders who enjoy small wave-riding, carving, and using the swell lines for speed. The wave side is usually less busy than the flat side, which many intermediate and advanced wingfoilers appreciate.

The wind season is long, but the most reliable period is June to mid-September, when the Meltemi is strongest. During this time you can almost depend on daily sessions, often with the wind strongest between midday and late afternoon. Spring and autumn can still be good, but with more variation and the occasional lighter day.

The launch area is sandy, wide, and easy, though it can get crowded in high season. Schools and rental centres operate on the beach, so beginners can learn on the flatter lagoon side while more experienced riders head straight into the power zone. The whole atmosphere is relaxed, sporty, and very international, with a lot of interaction between windsurfers, kiters, and wingfoilers sharing the same area.

The latest addition to the world of wind-powered watersports, wing foiling allows you to quickly and safely fly over the water.

Your introduction to wing foiling will start with a short theory lesson in which you will learn how to carry the wing, steer it, and turn it to catch the wind. You will then go into the water fully equipped with a wetsuit, life jacket, wing, and a large surfboard. The next step is to refine your handling of the wing on the water as you learn to surf for the first time in light wind on smooth water. As you make progress, you will be able to surf independently.

After you have learned the basics of handling the wing, you can move on to mastering the foil which gives that wonderful feeling of flying silently over the water. With the support of a speed boat, you can enjoy foiling for the first time without the wing or wind. This will help you to learn how to stabilize the board. Finally, you will put all the steps together as you learn how to handle and control the wing on the foil board. You will soon be flying, driven by the wind, without a motor and almost no noise, feeling very light and almost weightless. Now you're a wingfoil surfer!
