Essaouira is a lovely town by the sea in Morocco, with about 78,000 people living there. It sits right on the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by beautiful beaches. Many people come here from all over the world to enjoy activities like windsurfing, kitesurfing, and surfing. The old part of the town has buildings influenced by Berber, Portuguese, and French styles. The town used to be called "Mogador," which means "little fortress," because of the big walls around it. Besides being a great spot for water sports, Essaouira also has a rich history and culture.

The best waves for surfing are usually in spring and autumn, reaching heights of 1 to 2 meters. In the summer, the waves are a bit smaller due to the strong winds, around 0.5 to 1 meter. The wind mostly blows from the side of the shore and gets stronger in the summer months. People who love excitement usually go surfing or kitesurfing in the afternoons.

There are other places nearby that are great for ocean sports too:

Moulay Bouzerktoun: It's a small fishing village about 30 kilometers north of Essaouira. The beach here is famous among experienced windsurfers because of the unique waves. Be careful of the rocky bottom when the tide is low. The wind blows from the side and can be very strong in the summer. It's also a good spot for stand-up paddleboarding when there's no wind.

Sidi Kaouki: This spot is about 25 kilometers south of Essaouira. It's a long sandy beach perfect for experienced surfers and increasingly popular among kitesurfers because of the strong side-shore wind. The waves here are a bit bigger and more surfable than in Essaouira. Just be cautious of the currents. Sidi Kaouki is a small village with a few bars, restaurants, and grocery stores.
