Samos is often affectionately referred to as the Emerald of the Aegean. Two mountain formations cover the greatest part of the island, with acres of forests, vineyards and olive groves overlooking the aqua blue Aegean Sea. Dirt roads in the highlands, inland water springs, caves and demanding routes in the mountains are what make Samos a top destination for mountain bikers, trekkers, climbers and runners alike, with guided tours available in abundance and lots to do when you are not out on the water. Fortunately, Samos has been spared the excesses of Greek tourism.
